Buddies Visit

Today we went to see our buddies again and it was the best visit yet. We played Rock Paper Scissors in an interesting way and it was really fun because our buddies had to use their bodies to make the shapes. My buddy caught on right away and understood the different was to be the rock, paper, or scissors. He didn't copy his opponents either which was good.
I think that over the past couple of visits, my buddy jas become more comfortable around me and isn't as hesitant to answer questions and talk to me, which makes me happy :)

P.S. One thing I noticed was that he cut his hair so he doesn't have an afro anymore.

Yummy Breakfast

Granola and Fruit :)

Biking at the Park

Yesterday, I went biking at T.E. Scott park with my little siblings. We biked to the park and then had mini races around to track for around an hour. It was really fun and nice because it was sunny. It was also good exercise and I'm excited to do it again soon.

Friday Fitness

On Friday, our class ran sprint relays on the lower field. I tried really hard to sprint the best I could because sprinting is something I need to improve on. We ran a short distance so it was a really hard sprint and then a long rest. I was in a group with a few of my band friends. In the end, we were happy with how we did. Next time is if we do this again, I hope we can run a further distance as I think it would be more beneficial.

Choice Handball

Today, we had choice day and I chose to play handball in the small gym with mostly other band kids. We split into 3 teams and played very often because there wasn't that many of us, so it was a workout. It was mostly organized as a group and we were really good with making decisions together and overall, it was a really great gym day. A big shout out to Earl for organizing and getting all the equipment.

Buddies (last Tuesdays post)

Today our class went and saw our little buddies again and it went well.  At the beginning, I talked to my buddy about how much chocolate he ate over the break, and the said "100 million pieces" and started laughing, but later he told me that it was actually 20 pieces. We talked about healthy eating and he said his stomach hurt a little after eating a lot of candy, so I told him that eating a lot of sugar (aka candy) is bad for you, and having a little candy is okay, but we should try to eat healthier foods. He also said he went skateboarding on the weekend and had fun.

We were mostly focussing on underhand throwing and making sure that they step with the opposite foot today. Originally, my buddy was stepping forward with the same foot on the side he was throwing with, but I went step by step through with him about stepping with the opposite foot and after a little practice, he understood!! During the golf game, we was throwing correctly which made me happy because it meant I was able to teach him, and he listened and understood.

THE ULTIMATE DRAGON TRAILS BATTLE

Day 1 Band vs. Day 2 Band
The Ultimate Match

Even though we competed before, the Wildcats and the BBW's needed to combine to win this battle. We couldn't come up with a name for our team and then we realized why... we weren't a team. We were a Squad.

The game was mostly equal the whole way through and the Squad shined on the offense, but the struggle was real in the defence. We had difficulty coming up with plays and tactics, and of course, this is what the whole game came down to.....

It was the last play and all the other team had to do was score and we'd end in a tie, but that wasn't good enough for the Squad, we wanted Victory. We set up our defensive play and just as they were about to score, the Squad's defence came alive and stopped the play. We were victorious.

(just so you guys know this isn't actually legit... I was attempting to be funny, but we all know that's never going to happen lol)

SHS Dance Week

This past week was dance week. I'm not a very good dancer, but I always end up having fun anyways. Our band class did Jazz on Monday and Bhangra on Wednesday and we dominated on both days, in skills and sportsmanship. It is neat to learn different types if dances and I like the competitions at the end of the block because there's a good atmosphere and its fun to cheer others on. For Bhangra, Mr. Williams and Neuf both slayed in the teacher battle :) All the Sullivan students who taught us were really talented and did a great job teaching, so thank you to all of them. Overall, dance week is just a cool time and the energy is great!!!

Blog Posts...

So my blog hasn't been letting me upload my posts, so here's all the ones that were saved in my drafts...

CHARIOT GAME

So today, we played a super cool game in the kabadi field on the lower field. We had to get into teams of 5, so I was in a team with Earl, Miguel, Jessica, and Chris. We all had to hold onto a hoop and "protect" the pinnies that the driver had. We got took a lot of pinnies from the other teams and Jessica got a sweet bruise on her cheek (lol). Despite all the ripped pants and shorts, grass stained shirts, and bruises, it was still an awesome gym block and I hope we play the game again.

CHOICE FITNESS

Today, we did something different and had a choice fitness day, which I liked because there was something for everyone. A group of us band kids decided to do Zumba and it was.... interesting. At first, it wasn't difficult and went kind of slow, but by the end I was really tired. We had a lot of fun, even though it was really hard to follow along to the steps sometimes. If we were to have this option again, I don't think I would choose it because I probably would have gotten more out of pyramids, but I'm glad that I tried something new today.

MEMORY GAME

Today, we played one of John's games and it was really interesting because nobody had ever played it before. I really liked it because it combined teamwork, fitness, and the most important thing... FUN! We were split up into teams and were given a colour. When we were going for a lap around the school, John and Neuf hid our colour pinnies underneath yoga mats and once we got back, we had to find them. Sound easy... right?? Nope. We each had to take turns and do an exercise before we could lift up the mat, plus remember which ones we had already checked. I'm going to be honest... our team didn't do very well at the beginning, but got a little better towards the end. But even though we didn't do the best, we still had a good time and got a good workout, so it turned out okay.

WILDCATS!!!!!

For gym today, we played this REALLY FUN game called dragon tails... which is like flag football. We were split up into teams according to our birth months and we named our team... THE WILDCATS. It was super fun and our team really got into the game, and in the end, the Wildcats won (yay). What I think I liked most about this game was the sportsmanship and spirit that came along with it. We cheered a lot and had loads of fun. I really hope we play this game again and I think it would be cool if we did Day 1 Band vs. Day 2 Band or something like that.

WHAT TEAM? .....WILDACTS!

BUDDIES!!

Today, our class went to an elementary school and met our buddies for the again. The other times we went, Alexis and I were partners because her buddy wasn't here, but this time I was on my own, so it was a little different.. We talked with them a little at the beginning about what they did during spring break and my buddy said that he had fun and played lots of soccer and basketball. The  focus of todays class was jumping and squatting. My buddy and I participated in the activities, but he said his leg was really hurting, so we sat on the side of the gym and cheered on the other students and gave them high fives. Overall, from the part of gym class that he did participate in, he understood the different types of jumps, but I had to remind him to stop running and do a proper squat.

My buddy is very energetic and being around him really reminded me of my experiences in elementary school. It also opened my eyes to how hard it must be for a teacher to teach thirty kids... I could barely handle one!!! I am very thankful that I have this opportunity to be a big buddy for an elementary school student because it gives me the chance to help give him a better elementary school experience. I remember when I was in elementary school, my older buddies didn't put much effort into trying to get to know me and be my friend, and that's something I wish I could've had. I'm happy that we get to continue seeing our buddies for the rest of the year and I cant wait until next time :)
