Final Buddy Visit

On Tuesday, we had our last buddy visit and it was bittersweet. I didn't realize how much I had started looking forward to seeing my buddy the next time we went, but it turns out it was a lot. I enjoyed being able to be a older role model and friend for my little buddy and getting to know him. For the last visit, I took some Lego for him and we made a captain America shield that he kept because he said that he was one of his favourite super heroes. He gave me a tour of his classroom and showed me some pictures he had made, which reminded me of how proud I used to be when I showed my work to someone. This experience has taught me how easy it is to make someone happy by thinking of them first and giving them your full attention instead of being distracted with your own problems. By being around my little buddy, I really was able to let go of my problems for half an hour on those Tuesday's and just relax and have fun. In the end, I hope I was able to impact my little buddy and make him happy the way he was able to do so for me.

Did you see how many other little buddies wanted to join in? You had 5/6 just watching you. The best part of all of this is that you went out of your way to connect to your buddy and what you knew about him. If others were this sensitive and attentive to their little buddy's interests they would have felt way less awkward. It is a special part of your personality how in tune you are with others. Such a strength … just be careful not to become a martyr for others. Often our greatest strength is our biggest weakness in a different situation. Yours lends you to have others garner power over you and your can burn out trying to be everything to everyone. So choose wisely… but keep the caring spirit. :)

Jan. 7- Pickleball

Today, our class had the large gym as the facility and we played the game pickleball. Since I was talking to another teacher, I didn't know what was going on, so when Simran asked me to be her partner, I said yes. Then, Mr. Neufeld suggested that I choose a BASES student to be partners with and I gladly choose Mariam to be my partner instead. We had lots of fun and did really well. There was a lot of positive energy, which created a nice atmosphere to be in. For me, this was one of the most fun gym classes and I think she had fun too. I hope we get this chance again and have the opportunity to meet and play with more students from the BASES program.

Atomic Volleyball- Nov. 12

Today, it was choice day and Laura, Jackie, and I decided to be a team for atomic volleyball. I had played atomic badminton before and had a really fun time doing it, so I figured atomic volleyball would be fun to...and it was. We did pretty well for our first time and got the hang of it quite quickly. After a while, we joined a team of Grade 8's and 9's and played a big game, which was enjoyable as well. I helped set up and take down the nets, as well as give out the volleyballs to the different teams.

October 7- Pond Run

For fitness day today, out block did the pond run. Overall, I am very proud of how I did on this fitness day because I really pushed myself to see how fast I can run for the minute, but I still followed the guidelines. I never stopped running during the minute, and I walked at a pretty fast pace during the break. I ran with Simran first and then with Hardail. I enjoy running with my friends because we motivate each other to do better. I like the pond run because everyone can do it. Since you aren't counting your laps, it doesn't matter how fast you can run. What matters is the amount of effort you put in.
